To the Moon + Ib
To the Moon's official page 'To the Moon' is an indie RPG (is it?) where you control alternately between two people: Dr. Watts and Dr. Rosalene. Their job is to fulfil the last wish of a dying patient by linking their memories and desire in order to motivate the patient to accomplish their own dream by themselves. This episode's patient is an old man named Johnny who's dying real soon and he wanted to go to the moon. The problem is, the old man doesn't know why. And thus, Dr. Watts and Dr. Rosalene embark on the journey back time to find out and help achieve his dream. And oh boy it's a cry fest for me. The characters are just...I don't know. You, I mean, I care about the characters: about what happen to them and how they feel. I'm sentimental, I know. But I'm not alone, I know that too. A whole lot of people are touched by this game's storyline, and if I'm not mistaken, some people said you can't play through the game without crying. I don't know about that, though. Fact is, I cried. It's a paid game, by the way. I watched this guy, Cry, play: If you have some time (and by that I mean a couple of hours), please try watching these videos. It was awesome. (His voice is so suave and smooth too, much to my delight) Or better, if you want to play it yourself, please do. OH DID I MENTION THE MUSIC IS SO FREAKING AWESOME TOO? I MEAN REALLY. For an indie game. Oh my god. It was so heavenly. There's a song, a beautiful song: Just try listening to it. Listen. -- I actually found out about this game a few months ago when I started watching Cry playing Ib as I played the game myself too. So, about Ib. Ib is a (very, very mild) horror freeware game where you play as a young girl named Ib (I think she's 7) who visited an abstract art gallery with her parents. Then, somehow Ib got separated from her parents and was stuck in 'Fabricated World' (full of ghosts, of course). Your 'health point bar' will be in a form of a red rose. So when you're attacked/touched by the ghosts, you will lose a petal and when it wilts, it's game over. Anyway, in the middle of your journey, you'll meet with a guy called Gary and he will travel with you (you can control him too at some point)......a bit of spoiler here: his fate more or less depends on you too. I'll admit, I'm a total wuss; so much that I avoid playing the game when there's no sun and I plugged in headphones just to toss them aside because I'm...easily scared by the music (even though they're actually pretty) or footsteps or anything, and I'm scared by the PIXELATED GHOSTS too, especially when the ladies in Red or Green or Blue started fucking speed-crawling towards me, and they're everywhere. Let's not mention the doll room okay, it just scared me shitless. When the puppet followed me and wrote stuffs in blood, and then he mentioned he 'got more friends' and I had to enter the room nevertheless. I was like, fuck this and looked for the walkthrough for that room and completed it within 10 seconds. And of course, I don't play it fullscreen. That summarise why I need some assurance of some sort, so yeah I ventured a bit to Youtube. I'm so glad I did. Because his voice is just beautiful. Why did I even play a horror game if I'm such a coward? Again, a lot of people said that the storyline's good. Pixiv even changed their logo into Ib and stars into roses back then. In addition, the fandom of this game is enormous, I'm serious. There are just so many beautiful fanarts, fanfics, and whatnots about it. I was curious and googled about it just to find out that it's a horror game (well I typed 'is ib s' on Google afterwards). Well, the story is good. There are multiple endings. If I wasn't mistaken the first ending I got was 'Memories Crannies'. It was a good ending, but not the best, definitely. Nevertheless, I was hooked. I even wanted to draw fanarts at some point, but didn't do so because I'm too lazy (and tend to procrastinate a lot). If you're interested, you can just download it and play it yourself since it's a freeware. But if you want to watch Cry play: P.S. Cry sounds slightly like an English speaking KK.. OHMYGODIJUSTREALISETHISOMG P.P.S. Actually he doesn't, I love their voices anyway. Labels: findings, games, songs |
